Marketers love the new Facebook Timeline.

Using eye-tracking research Mashable and EyeTrackShop were able to compare visual statistics of the old Facebook layout vs the new Facebook Timeline.

The findings were that:

  • Facebook Timeline cover photos get noticed first
  • Facebook ads get noticed more in FB Timeline (43% old vs 64% timeline)
  • Personal information gets more attention in FB Timeline (1.6 second vs 2.2 second)

In a second heat map study of brand pages Mashable and EyeTrackShop discovered the following:

  • Content matters 
  • Profile photos can be the difference between seeing and not seeing a brand (faces draw the most attention)
  • Photos on the wall get attention (avg wall attention 4.88 second)

10 tips to for having a zenful e-mail inbox.

From Business Insider here are 10 tips to keeping a zenful e-mail inbox:

  1. Enable multiple inboxes (aka smart mailboxes)
  2. Always use an email service that supports IMAP
  3. Never put off emails that take will take less than 5 minutes to respond to
  4. Set up folders, tags and labels
  5. Enable conversation view (aka threaded view)
  6. Create a read later folder for non essential email
  7. Turn off notification from Facebook, Twitter, etc. 
  8. Archive or delete emails you no longer need
  9. Treat your inbox as if it were a to do list
  10. Scan your spam or junk folder for missed emails

After implementing these simple tips take note how your performance and efficiency increases as no project or idea will die in the infinite abyss of your digital inbox.
