The only thing bigger than the game itself on Super Bowl Sunday are the commercials that come with it. Shazam, the smartphone app, is rolling out an enhanced way to consume in-game content, Shazam enabled advertising and Madona’s half time show. Could Shazam be the future of god awful QR codes?

Is Shazam the Future of TV Advertising?
Traditionally Shazam has been a mobile phone application that allows users to identify songs that they hear on the radio, in the club or at a party but do not know the name to. Now Shazam is evolving as a means to enhance the TV advertising experience.
Brands such as Tide and Old Navy have already adopted Shazam as a way to allow viewers to whip out their mobile phone and Shazam a commercial. After Shazam tags the commercial users are directed to a mobile site where they can buy the on screen product directly.
An example of this new integration watch the Old Navy ad seen in the video above and whip out your phone to Shazam it. Once the ad is identified you can buy the exact outfit the person is wearing by clicking the “Shop The Look”, thus simplifying the viewer’s purchasing decision to: watch and Shazam TV ad - instantly view product – purchase immediately.
Whether this integration will catch on with consumers remains anyone’s guess but it is definitely worth keeping a close eye on.
